Hi Stefano, why don't you kindly invite Mr. Be Yamamura to join this forum? Anyway, I want to add another simple question to the list: Did he tried another channel's arrangement (for example tweeter positioned below midrange channel or some other conf...

In my first design, I kept them all in a vertical line. It had one channel less back then. When I added the 1" throat JMLC 1000, I decided, as the tweeter operates over 9.6k, the slight misalignment may not matter. Still, I kept vary and kept the fra...

Use plumber's putty. If you have 4 of the tannoy drivers try using two in each cabinet but only drive one tweeter. Adds 6 dB before distortion.while the sound is very good, it doesn't quite have the sound I heard at Romy's, but he hasn't been able to ...

I guess you cannot say you listened to a horn system if you dont have an upper bass horn. The upper bass horn has to fill in the response from the compression driver down. At this delicate range nothing will perfectly macth it but another front horn. ...

Kodomo, what is your ear height when you are sitting in your listening chair? I guess it is less than 120cm. Perhaps when you finish setting up the horns and remove the wheels effectively lowering them you may be in the position of lowering the twee...

Coops, Merlin
It looks you are familiar with 703 driver’s sound. Any thoughts that you find would be worth to share? I do not think that by listening this driver it would be possible to distinct the sound of Neodymium from sound of cobalt. Still, in...

HI, Dietmar from Germany uses a diy multicellular horn for his JBL 077-tweeter http://chaudioroom.com/Photos/CH1505%20Dietmar-6m.jpg By the way, i´m searching construction plans of Altec 1505, 805 or 1005 for a complete DIY project. Any suggestions? ...

Hey I read around here of the importance of time aligning drivers, and am trying to build it into my horn frame, but I'm starting to wonder, if tweeter frequency wavelengths are around and inch long, wont I completely loose any alignment if I sit hal...

Danvprod, I hope you understand that “proper four or five-way system” is some kind of Unicornnish type of animal and we could talk about it only abstractly. Still, since you have mentioned it – what and how are you trying to accomplish with your five...

Sure, Romy. The commercial product has both midrange and tweeter horns inside the mouth. My plan is to use the bass horn on it's own, as a dedicated bass channel. The plan appeals to me because there are no folds, among other reasons. The expansio...

Decoud, I do reject any speculations about flux modulation in compression drivers as I do presume that it is absolutely negligible. It is like using a SS amp with ultra low output impedance, to drive a ribbon tweeter and to worry about return current...

Though he seems to like running several TTs in parallel, I do not interpret Pham's page to show that he is running more than just one horn system; what I see is an evolution of a system. It looks like, in its latest iteration (under the heading "Syst...

You have some very good ideas, some I hadn't thought of before, the main reason for the 300hz crossover is to keep the crossover out of any important areas of music and voices. Moving the crossover up might solve some problems, especially the huge hf...

Why can't you just stack them inserting new horn in between midbas and midhorn and keeping your original arrangement? Since your midbass sits on the floor, the tweeter still should be on resonable hight.I would transform your full range Melquiades fo...

Dear CatThe best tweeters that I have ever heard is a plasma tweeter. It is not 3 x 3, but man they are 1000 times better than the previous best ribbon tweeters found in expensive Maggies.Have you seen or heard one?Cheers...

As high end speakers go these aren't that atrocious looking. Let's face it: speaker design is frozen from WW2. We have horns, panels and box speakers as we have had for a couple of generations. Even the driver elements are variations on a theme. I th...

I was listening light night the Charles Ives’ Fourth Symphony by the kids of American Symphony Orchestra and Members of Schola Cantorum under the baton of probably 180 years old Leopold Stokowski. Ives music is not exactly my cap of tea but I hardly ...
I wonder if you could expand on that Romy? How is Kevin Scott employing the 703 and indeed in your wide experience, how could that be improved upon?
I have no experience was 703 driver personally and is therefore I could ...
…AND since the exact frequencies affected by HF loss of the Finalizer and the frequencies covered by the tweeter adjustment are not likely to be exactly the same, then when the tweeter is adjusted to correct the HF loss frequencie...

Romy,Now that you have removed the slope try out the treated tweeter I provided you with so long ago, the one that sounded exactly like the untreated EV's. We would all like to know how that matches with the S2, in an unlimited application..... might...

Sounds as though you had a wonderful time. The Brinkmann room alternated between three tables, their 'La grange ' direct drive 'Oasis' and a balace with a 'Thales' tonearm, the Verity's use a ribbon tweeter Raal? Which in that undamped room was just ...

I may have a point on this
some years ago, I had some confidence with the owner of a shop, and he let me use the demo equipment, though in fact my budget didn´t allow to buy him more than a few cheap things.one day I was psycothic listenig to s...

I just remembered that Haralanov and I discussed at length the merits of "mechanical filters" vs. electronic filters. We also agreed that a tweeter can sound much better when it's nested in a larger paper cone.Best regards,Paul S...

Hi alex. Sure the 12 incher starts narrowing around 700. But the horn does too. And in that area you cross both at -6dB. which contributes to narrowing vertically. The magic is, to merge in a way that off axis its not getting too odd in a complex sum...
Folding introduce a bunch
of resonating chambers and cost audio coloration in most of the cases that do MASK
OUT the transient dynamics but folding itself should not have an impact to dynamics

I feel that the correct objective of home music listening should be to reproduce as closely as possible what one can enjoy in a great concert hall with great musicians. Thus, I have been a advocate for surround processing for years. As stereo replaced...

I really notice the absence of any discussion of the melody range. Tannoy tweeter and red midbass seem to be getting all of the attention. I wonder if the reds problem with loud, may be located in the melody range. The problem is something I would pr...

Using an S2 above 8Khz or so is well into its breakup range. I would consider either a 1" exit/2" diaphragm driver or possibly a bullet tweeter that is comfortable down to 8K or so....

How Wilson sounds:Pressure caused by non-linear bass squeezed through narrow port holes.Shining caused by the papery upper mids of a too high crossed 6.5" midwoofer.Sparkle caused by the metal ringing of a titanium tweeter. What Wilson does:Use st...

Why not try it? It "should" work to extend response, if nothing else. Just use the least in the way of caps you can get by with, to avoid "breathing". And it's not like you need the gain, if, as I recall, that tweeter is a 109 dB target.Of cou...
